I’m not a liberal and this doesn’t even remotely bother me. Too many folks are making a much ado about nothing (notably Debbie Schlussel and Atlas Shrugs: MUSLIM FOOTBATHS: YOUR TAX $ AT WORK!)
Why this topic is even up for debate escapes me. Essentially what’s happening is that the University of Michigan-Dearborn will be installing footbaths in their restrooms.
Footbaths which are usually used by followers of Islam to wash their feet before prayer.
Before, Muslim students were washing their feet in the sinks and causing a few problems with the custodians, wet floors, and sinks pulling away from the walls.
So considering the fact that
more than 10 percent of the students are Muslims
the university decided to install footbaths, to cut down on the problem.
Nationwide, more than a dozen universities have footbaths, many installed in new buildings. On some campuses, like George Mason University in Virginia, and Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Mich., there was no outcry. At Eastern Michigan, even some Muslim students were surprised by the appearance of the footbath — a single spigot delivering 45 seconds of water — in a partitioned corner of the restroom in the new student union.
I don’t see what the big deal is. No school has said the footbaths are specifically for Muslim students, nor are only limited to those that practice the faith. As the article further reads, they can be used by the custodians to fill buckets for for anyone to use for whatever purposes.
No one gives such an outcry that all schools are out for Christian holidays or acknowledge freely their belief in the Christian God and expect everyone to have respect of such belief.
Christians sicken me most of the time. Tolerance is like at 0%, and that’s not Christ’s teaching. As a Christian I’m just more embarrassed everyday that so called “followers of Christ” would do the exact opposite of His teachings.
